Beauty: A Pampering Treat in your own Bathroom

New year, new you – I am sure I am not the only one with this resolution.  Eat healthier, make more effort with how I dress and of course look after my body better.  January is not the easiest month financially for any of us though and all of these things tend to cost pennies.

Inspired by a Christmas present from a Mum friend who totally gets the importance of finding some ‘Me-time’ in our busy lives, I am going to be treating my body to homemade body scrubs this year.  Using only things you will already have around the house, they are simple, cheap and give you the salon pampering treatment from the comfort of your own bathroom.  Your skin will never feel fresher than after an exfoliating treatment.

The simplest recipe is just

1 Cup of sea salt

1/2 cup of oil – anything from baby oil to vegetable oil

but by adding essential oils, or substituting the salt for sugar, you can create something perfectly tailored to you.  Some peppermint oil or vanilla essence from the baking cupboard create a lovely sweet smelling scrub, and to banish the cellulite add 1/2 cup of coffee.  You can combine flavours and experiment with oils and I hear coconut oil (available from most health food stores) is the oil of choice for the seasoned scrub makers and is definitely next on my list.

I will be on the look out for some lovely glass jars which look gorgeous in any bathroom and are perfect for storing your scrub.  There is no excuse not to look after your body and give yourself a little pampering treat from the comfort of your very own bathroom.
