Autumn is well and truly upon us! The nights are drawing in, the leaves are falling, and summer clothes are being pushed to the back of the cupboard in favour of some warmer togs. It’s also a good time to invest in a few new bits to see you through the colder months – and here are five essentials you might like to consider splashing out on.
A good pair of boots is an Autumn/Winter must-have. What style you go for is up to you – ankle, knee-length, heeled, flat, wellies (!) – but you need something sturdier than Converse or ballet pumps for traversing rain-soaked streets. I like these by Blowfish from Office.
I’m a sucker for a bag at any time of year, but now spend most of my time lugging round a changing bag more than anything else. For a handy little everyday bag for coffee with friends, a shopping trip or the school run, you can’t go far wrong by channelling some Autumn wildlife with this gorgeous fox design from Accessorize.
You can’t get through Autumn without some cosy layers to wrap up warm. I love a big cardigan to snuggle up in at home or to wear on those sunnier days when you don’t really need a coat. This fringed waterfall cardie from Next looks like a perfect pick.
You need a good coat to last you until Spring, and I prefer a longer length one to keep legs drier and cosier than a shorter jacket. I’ve found this wool-rich one from ASOS which looks lovely and just right to protect you from those biting winds.
A jumper dress is a brilliantly versatile wardrobe staple for Autumn/Winter. Team with skinny jeans or thick tights during the day, or brave it with bare legs (if you’ve got the pins for it!) in the evening. I love the colour of this one from French Connection, and the v-neck means you won’t get too warm wearing it inside.
